Jute Technology Mission (Mini Mission-III)

Expected Benefits

Marketing avenues & information would be gradually extended to 25% of the total raw jute/mesta produced in the country which in quantitative terms comes to around 4,05,000 MT of raw jute/mesta.

The indirect additional return to the farmers has been estimated at Rs.16 crores. This indirect return would benefit farmers who would sell an additional 18 lakh bales and would thus gain at least Rs.45 to Rs.50 per quintal. The farmers would continue to get additional returns even after the project period if raw jute is sold through these market facilities taking use of information regarding Jute Market, market rates and new rating techniques to improve quality of jute.

There would be a vast improvement in the present status of availability of marketing information with the jute / mesta farmers and this would go a long way to establish a decision support system for them enabling to take marketing decisions.

At least 50 - 100 Jute Farmers’ Group would be established which would become focal points for technology dissemination/market information.

Targetted Beneficiaries

The project attempts to provide direct benefit to the jute/mesta growers of the Country by way of better return to their produce and through better market information. However, all the jute/mesta growing farmers would be benefited out of the Mission.
